USF is one of the most important projects for me nowadays, and I am sure that this will continue for many years.  USF is about people. Those who are joyful and at the same time serious, initiative and even more initiative, pleasant and intelligent, erudite and those who have their hearts on the right side. The primary thing, USF is about individuals, each one with their destiny, happiness and grief, but immeasurably fascinating.

Thanks to USF, he was able to find true friends and role models. Because of the experience he gained, he is now sharing it with other people.

Freedom is not just a word; it is our foundation, our core value. To me, freedom is about personal autonomy. It is the ability to act without coercion, take responsibility for your own life, and grow in the direction you choose. Where rules and restrictions prevail, there is no genuine curiosity or drive to create. The spirit that tears the body to fight,
Tears for progress, happiness and freedom

No spy’s craft

For me, the main value of freedom is responsibility, which arises from the feeling of freedom and at the same time affects its development. Freedom is an unconditional value that is not subject to restrictions and allows you to clearly understand not only the path, but also the final goals under any circumstances. A community of free people is capable of changing society and promoting progressive ideas. For me, the USF is a community that takes responsibility, stimulates change, and spreads the values of freedom in various areas.

For me, the USF is a new experience of being in a community that has a clear goal and is moving towards it. It’s about ideas and values that resonate with me, and about an atmosphere that makes me feel comfortable. Ideas of freedom are the foundation of a free, independent country. Freedom encourages you to think about your actions, because there can always be undesirable consequences. It gives you the opportunity to develop, and if you develop, your country develops. For a person who is a patriot of Ukraine, this is the highest value.

I believe that freedom is not simply the opportunity to choose, but also the entitlement to act without apprehension, when I have the autonomy to chart my own course and accept the consequences of my decisions. However, true freedom also requires an awareness of the consequences of one’s decisions. Every choice, even the smallest one, has its own results, and I must be ready to accept them. This means that freedom is not only the absence of constraints but also the ability to take responsibility for what I do, knowing that my actions can affect me and others.

‘USF are clearly deeper and more than just a public organization. It is a place of strength, freedom, and unity. These are incredibly interesting young people who are eager for change. This is the territory of personal development, through acquaintances, participation in projects, and opportunities that open before you. I believe that our generation is the driving force of progress, because the UCC has convinced me of this more than once. Hilary grew up in the beautiful city of Varash, in the Rivne region. Since childhood, he sought to separate from everyone and have contact according to his own and mutual desires. From an early age, he began participating actively in various school events — from fairs and performances to Olympiads and other intellectual competitions. From 2021, he is studying at KPI to become an acoustic engineer. From the beginning of his student life, he sought to be involved in the organizational process of the faculty, so from the beginning of 2022 (with a short break) he is a member of the student council. He joined USF in the summer of 2023.

USF is like the Internet of human resources, communication and thoughts. All-Ukrainian web of active Ukrainian youth, each member of which is an individual with his own thoughts, desires, and goals. However, we are all united by one idea — libertarianism and spreading freedom to the masses to improve the nation and the country.

Also, for a long time, Uliana had been in search of her value system, but at the age of 16 she came across F. A. Uliana is now striving to develop in the field of political reporting and journalism, because she has had a desire to write since childhood. She is the co-founder and co-editor-in-chief of the «Responsibility Zone» telegram channel, which, together with the team, aims to develop into an online edition that promotes the ideas of the individual freedom and responsibility.

My best friend introduced me to USF back in the autumn of 2021. When I heard about a libertarian initiative in Ukraine, I immediately wanted to join it, because for a long time I felt lonely due to the lack of like-minded people, those for whom the sacred word “Freedom” is not an empty sound. USF has cemented my opinion that students are the driving force behind changes in society and the country, and that is why I feel highly inspired and want to work for the realization of my ideals. I hope this inner fire never fades out.

Oles got into USF by a simple coincidence. The reason is that the Leadership Program was held not far from his home. Oles do not regret that he was a part of this event, and joined to the USF. USF is about people, who believe in themselves, in others, and in the future, which they can create. USF doesn’t only encourage people to fight together for liberty, but it also unites regions, and people from very different parts of our country in one big powerful energy, which rules the world. However, inside this energy is cozy and comfortable, kind and sincere. People, being united, don’t only fight back to the system, but also form one big family.

Bozhena was born in Kherson, but she lived almost all of her life in small Nikopol, where she realized how important freedom was to her. Kyiv became the space for this person, where she moved to study in 2019. The decision to choose English philology seemed to her the best, because it gave her time to understand and find herself and at the same time learn the language at a sufficiently good level. I took an active part in the first year of study at the university, literally enjoyed the first events. I first found my community in 2021, when I moved to Vilnyy, it was he who gave me the impetus for an active social life. And so, when I saw recruitment for the Leadership Program in 2022, I couldn’t pass by and was pleasantly surprised by the concentration of cool people and information.

This is our basic need and the main dream of generations of fighters against totalitarian regimes of the last two centuries. Because of such a great price of freedom for the individual, I consider freedom, first of all, a responsibility. Responsibility to ancestors, society and oneself. Since a free man cannot blame anyone but himself for his defeats, freedom gives him all the opportunities to achieve success, just as a free man is responsible to his society for the choice of power, and he has to prove to his ancestors with his free life that their struggle for free was not in vain. «I’m used to hearing the words “You won’t change anything”. These words are inherited from the soviet oppressive government that was clamping down upon any hint of individual initiative and freedom. But I wasn’t getting it: why I won’t change anything? I’ve got my body, my brain, and my beliefs: you can do anything with these! That’s why I was doing and will continue to do what I believe is right – just because I am able to do that. And if anyone will try to stand in the way, the only way forward is to fight back. In USF everyone does the same thing – fights for their freedom and beliefs. That’s why it’s an honor for me to be a part of this community of people who believe in the same ideas as I do, who aren’t scared of uncertainty, who are truly free and proud to be. On Ukrainian Students For Freedom: «For me libertarianism ultimately began with the desire to make my country a better place. After years of studies and pondering I have come to a conclusion that the only reliable and proven way to do it is (economic) freedom. It is very important to have the support of your like-minds if you don’t want to sit aside while changes are happening. That’s why I am with USF – to implement projects and ideas I couldn’t implement alone. And to have fun doing it!»

He is a graduate of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of NaUKMA, Department of Finance. The path to libertarianism began at the Maidan, where Tymur was a part of 16 Sotnya of Self-Defense. Those events forced him to think about the meaning of personal freedom. As a result, he figured out more about Austrian School, the Georgian free-market reforms and ideas of Ayn Rand. All of that encouraged him to take a part in the Kaha Bendukidze’s memorial conference in November 2014, where he has heard about more about libertarianism and realized that such ideas inspire him.
On Ukrainian Students For Freedom: «Since the time of ESFL summit, I have been trying to attend all thematic events, so when I heard about the opportunity to join the libertarian organization – I decided to become a part of it.»

This year Daryna is going to graduate from Odesa National University with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations. This field of study has led her to libertarian idea. Daryna has been actively visiting various events dedicated to questions of democracy and security, which have sharply occurred in 2014-2015 in Ukraine. Consequently, Daryna has understood that her ideas still seem incomprehensible and strange to many people that surround her, as she really started following the philosophy of freedom in the moment, when this freedom was undermined. The first time she attended the libertarian event was autumn 2017 after the invitation of her friend. Daryna has started having a fancy for the ideas of free societies since that very moment when she heard the marvelous story of Georgia’s transformations and took part in an amazing discussion of many problems.
On Ukrainian Students for Freedom: «She decided to become a part of the organization because of common thoughts, views and interesting people to undertake great steps with. The other reason is rooted in the irresistible wish to rehabilitate and renew freedom in people’s minds and in own head as well. The organization is a little leap into an inexhaustible flow of ideas, concepts and ways to their implementation. It gives you a chance to feel you as a part of a new, revolutionary history, which one day will disturb this society.»

USF is a place where everyone can be themselves and defend truly great goals together with an extraordinary team of leaders. I am convinced that my life and the fruits of my work should belong to the country where I was born – Ukraine, my homeland. Together with the USS, I will promote the ideals of freedom and libertarianism for the benefit of the people.

For me, the ideals of freedom are fundamental pillars of my personality. From 2014, when the war in eastern Ukraine began, I began to understand how important the principles underlying the libertarian worldview are in terms of the development of our society and the maintenance of peace. That’s why I believe that ideas of a free society must be developed in Ukraine, and because of this I decided to join the Ukrainian Students for Freedom.

After that, she continued this path and entered KNU named after Taras Shevchenko, the Faculty of Economics, majoring in International Economics because during 2016-2018 she actively participated in the UNME school and university, where she first became interested in global issues of the world. Now Lisa has been a very active student for three years, a leader in her community that participates in many youth programs. Since 2020 she has been the president of the local section in Ukraine of the largest European organization Erasmus Student Network Ukraine | Kyiv.

Every year people become more and more valuable to me. They say “your people are everywhere”, but this was a rarity before I joined the USF. It was, by the way, the main reason for my joining: I lacked a community where I could talk freely and lovingly about Ukraine and its problems, about how to help my country and myself in current conditions. I like the values of individualism that we carry, I will not say that I already 100% correlate with them, but that’s why I’m here. Freedom is the first value on my list.

I believe that almost everything that happens to a person depends on him – from elementary failures with a deadline to the ability to provide decent living conditions. The ability to defend my interests is a key condition of life for me today. It is much easier to be heard when you are not alone, but in a circle of like-minded people, and you can draw public attention to those problems that are ignored (un) consciously. USF is about the significance and the ability to be heard.

My story in USF begins from the Leadership Program 2020, which I was lucky enough to get into. I learned about the organization by accident, but when I was filling out the questionnaire, I realized that the Ukrainian Students for Freedom has the ideals which I want to spread and that are worth fighting for. It is very cool that this is a youth organization that unites many creative and enterprising people. After all, who if not us, the youth, can improve our country and our lives?

Daiana grew up in Kyiv, where she graduated from Ukrainian humanitarian lyceum. It is worth mentioning that the atmosphere there was all about love and respect for Ukraine. Since 2020 she has been a student of KPI named after I. Sikorsky, where maths and programming courses are mostly taught. Since childhood, she has been fond of psychology. Daiana is very lucky to be brought up as the smallest member of the family. Moreover, she is the only girl out of 4 children. That means she had to struggle with proving her rights in various family situations. That is why the idea of freedom has been in her mind even when she was tiny. Daiana has always dreamt of finding a special place in this world. The one that would be outside of her comfort zone, where she will always have an opportunity to develop and be surrounded by like-minded people.  Instant life circumstances made Daiana meet the USF when she was 17 years old. And now she is an activist of this particular public organization.

For me, the conception of freedom is not just a topic for a discussion with friends. Personally, I believe that it is a fundamental idea for the mentality of the person, who improves himself/herself and the country as well. Most of the representatives of a young generation in independent Ukraine illustrates the fact that freedom is the fundamental statement of developing economic, political and social spheres of our life. In its part, USF is a group of people who are united with the idea of improving Ukraine to the best right now without any procrastination and hesitation.

Sophia was born and raised in Kyiv. She graduated from high school here, received a secondary music education, and since 2019 she has been a student of Borys Hrinchenko Kyiv University in the field of “Advertising and PR”. First found out about the libertarian movement in 2020 at the Ayn Rand Conference Europe. As Sofia herself admits, this trip radically changed her worldview and attitude to life. At the same time, she runs a charity, since 2020 she’s a volunteer of the all-Ukrainian volunteer movement “Building Ukraine Together”, a participant in the information campaign of the advertising agency Postmen “Break the circle of violence”. Sophia relentlessly spreads the idea that the beginning of change starts with an alteration in mentality!

Ukrainian Students for Freedom is about the best individuals. The concentration of the young, indomitable, hard-working, and most ambitious is right here. It’s about the future. The future is free, independent and happy. This is the future that must be fought for and built on one’s own. It’s about family. USF is a tremendous network on the territory of Ukraine and outside its borders, united by a common idea. It’s about the exchange. Exchange of experience, thoughts, help. One of the most important factors of development is a mutual exchange, which is permanently proceeding.

Mykola passed an internship at the international financial body “ProCreditBank” and the international consulting company “Baker Tilly Ukraine”. Mykola is actively engaged in volunteer activities associated with the organization of large-scale events. He met Ukrainian Students for Freedom at the Student Model Congress in 2020, after which he entered the Leadership Program and became an active member of the USF. Mykola is also an adviser to the Chairman of the Kyiv branch on supply communication.

For me, while choosing an organization, the most important are the values of the organization. What is the most important thing for me, and why did I choose USF? Freedom is a first and fundamental value, responsibility and individuality. The greatest influence on my views was Weber’s Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, which finally reaffirmed my desire for freedom and a free society. The event that had the biggest influence on me was the Student Model of Congress, organized by the USF in 2020, where I chose the Libertarian Party. There I was able to rethink the principles of freedom and try to implement them in political processes. That is why freedom is to choose and do what you want and take full responsibility for it.  Freedom equals the opportunities that a person has and seeks to implement. USF is about community, unity, development and most importantly about freedom. The organization and its members are united throughout Ukraine, and have the ideals of a free, independent Ukraine and actively spread them.
